The 14th Day – Jealous God

Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, WHOSE name is JEALOUS, is a jealous God. — Exodus 34:14 

Continued with yesterday’s verse, God said to Moses later on in Exodus Chapter 34: “I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the LORD, will do for you.Obey what I command you today, I will drive out …”

God summarised the covenant: On his side of the contract, He is to protect and provide for them in miraculous ways and to drive out their enemies. Israel’s side is to obey everything that God has commanded them. 

Here it described that God is a jealous God. ‘Jealous’ (of God) means ‘demanding faithfulness and exclusive worship’. It is a father’s heart not wanting his children foolishly making up their own idols but stayed faithful to their own father. God is a jealous God until the day when his children all come home!

The 11th Day

“Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” — Exodus 19:5-6 (NIV)

Just as it was for Israelites, God also promised to bless his people if we keep his covenant, we will be our father’s treasured possession, our nation, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. The word “priest” means “ONE WHO DRAWS NEAR TO GOD”. ‘The Father LONGED FOR  a kingdom of people that would draw near to him IN LOVE. His heart has always desired INTIMACY with his people. HIS HEART ACHES FOR THIS TO THIS DAY. ‘  

I read this verse, and was touched by the love of God for me. As a father, he is so long to be closed to his children: He would love to give us a hug when we are down, and a pat on the shoulder saying well done when we are doing great. It is the intimacy relationship with us that he always desires.

He promised us love and blessings, peach and joy, kindness and goodness … when we draw near to him.

The Seventh Day

I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. — Genesis 9:13 (NIV)

Every time when a beautiful rainbow appears in the clear blue sky, it reminds me of the covenant that God has made between him and us. What is a covenant? According to dictionary, a covenant is an agreement, usually formal, between two or more persons to do or not do something specified.

When two persons come together and make a covenant, what kind of relationship do they have? I would say they are equal. Would a master make a covenant with his slaves? No because slaves have no rights to enter an equal position with his master. But God made one covenant with us here and a few more later. He is the creator of the universe and everything inside it and yet he came down and offered us a covenant. He treats us as his sons and daughter rather than anything else. We have a heavenly father that acknowledges us as his children. Ss he love you so, will you accept Him as your father?
