The 79th day – What is the Holy Spirit?
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. — Act 1:8
It has been so windy these few days in newcastle that I almost could not cycle anywhere. The wind is so powerful, it feels like it could blow me and my bike away when I was out yesterday. Today’s verse is about the holy spirit, and surprisingly, these two things actually have connection according to John 3:8
“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” — John 3:8
Who or what is the Holy Spirit?
Jesus has spoken about the Holy Spirit as an advocate / counselor / helper in John 14:16-17:
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.“
Though I have experienced the power of the holy spirit in my daily life, I still can not explain the answer clearly. Therefore, I’ve found a video that helps to explain this better, it also tells you the fruits of the spirit.
“The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” (John 14:26)
“When He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.” (John 16:13)
In today’s verse, Jesus forewarns his disciples that they are going to receive an overwhelming experience of the Father’s love and power in their lives. This experience will empower them to be brave witnesses and totally transform their lives. This has taken place later on in Acts chapter 2.
