The 78th day – The gift the father promised

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.  — Acts 1:4

Yesterday, we shared about the resurrection of Jesus after his crucifixion. Today, it’s about what Jesus begin to do and to teach his apostles until the day he ascends to heaven.

3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” — Act1:3-5

Jesus asked the disciples to wait in Jerusalem, even though it was the city associated with so much suffering. They were to wait until the arrival of Holy Spirit – the gift the father promised. It was ten days later, after Jesus has been taken up to heaven in from of the disciples eyes, the holy spirit fell upon the earliest followers of Jesus and they were filled with the fire of love.
