The 71st day – Peace I leave with you…
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. — John 14:27
Continued with yesterday’s story, this is also taken from Jesus’ last teachings to his disciples or known as “the farewell discourses”. If you have watched the video, you probably would have seen his disciples’ worried faces when they heard that Jesus was leaving them. If not, you can possibly image how terrifying it feels when you hear that your love one is going to leave you forever. Jesus knew how they felt, and said: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
The word “peace” here is a word that was originally used to refer to the clam after a storm, the resolving of discordant musical notes, and the joining of hands in reconciliation after conflict. It is a beautiful word harking back to the hebrew word SHALOM, which refers to peace at every level – with God, neighbour, ourselves, and creation. — Mark Stibbe
Jesus promises his troubled followers, he will leave them peace, the peace at every level that the world is impossible to offer, but he alone can. Moreover, I can boldly declare this peace is still here with us today, thank to ‘The prince of peace’ (Jesus).
Ask and you will receive!
God loves you!
