The 37th day – The Best Gift of All
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. — Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)
About 600 years before Jesus was born, this verse above was prophesied by Isaiah, the messenger of God. For to us a son is given and this son would reign on King David’s throne and His kingdom will be everlasting. Also the prophet Isaiah declared that Jesus is the Light of the World in Isaiah 9:2
2 The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.
In a time of great darkness, God promised to send a light who would shine on everyone living in the shadow of death. He is both “Wonderful Counsellor” and “Mighty God”. This Message of HOPE was fulfilled in the birth of Christ and the establishment of his eternal Kingdom. He came to deliver all people from their slavery of sin.
Furthermore, Isaiah uses four names today’s verse to describe the Messiah. These names have special meaning to us:
Wonderful Counsellor – He is exceptional, distinguished, and without peer, the one who gives the right advice
Mighty God – He is God himself.
Everlasting Father – He is timeless, he is God our father.
Prince of Peace – His government is one of justice and peace.
Though there is still a long way till Christmas (my favourite time of the year), I thought I would still play something Christmasy because of today’s verse if you don’t mind.
