The 25th day – A father to the fatherless
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. — Psalm 68:5 (NIV)
As we known, God has clearly emphasized his concerns about two special groups of people right back to Moses’ time: 1) Those who have lost their fathers 2) Those who have lost their husbands. Why? In fact, orphans are mentioned 40 times, widows 56 times, “orphans and widows’ 30 times in the Old Testament. These two groups of people must have something that evokes special compassion from God.
In today’s verse, King David accentuates that God LOVES those who are fatherless and widowed. He is present in love for both groups in his holy dwelling.
I thought it is worth to present the verses before and after in order to give you a better picture, as follows:
“4 Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him—his name is the LORD.
5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.
6 God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”
Additionaly, here are some facts related to the fatherless:
28% of all children in the world live without their biological father.
90% of runaways and homeless children come from fatherless homes.
85% of all youth in prison come from fatherless homes.
75% of adolescent patients in chemical abuse centers come from fatherless homes.
3 out 4 adolescent suicides happen in fatherless homes.
As usual, I would like to show an amazing video, please watch:
In our world today, there are more fatherless people than ever, there is a pressing need to rediscover this expression of the Father’s merciful heart.
God, the Father is saying to you: ‘You are beautiful, my dear child, I love you!’
